Discover golfing gems in Northland, New Zealand
Northland is a place of deep significance for New Zealanders, where historical sights sit alongside some of the best sailing, diving, and deep sea fishing in the country.
The region is also a story of two coastlines. The west coast is rugged and soulful, resulting in the creation of one of the finest links course in the country. The east coast is sophisticated and urbane, providing jaw-dropping scenery at the likes of Kauri Cliffs.
Alongside Kauri Cliffs, you will find five Experience Golf Courses (90 miles Beach Golf Links, Bay of Islands Golf Club, Waitangi Golf Club, Waipu Golf Club and Mangawhai Golf Club) offering seaside links to parkland layouts. Along with great golf, take your time exploring the twin coastline, Cape Reinga light house, Tane Mahuta ( a 2000-year-old Kauri tree) and the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.
About the courses:
Ranked 49th in the world by Golf Digest, the course is perched on a cliff top with sweeping views out to Matauri Bay and beyond to the Pacific Ocean. Designed by David Harman, fifteen holes have spectacular views of the ocean, six of which are played alongside cliffs that plunging to the sea. There’re plenty non-golf activities available on this 6,000 acre working farm. Five star lodging accommodations is also available on site.
Located on the shores of 90 Mile Beach, one of the ‘must visit’ places in New Zealand, the course provides a true links experience with magnificent views to the Tasman Sea.
Offering beautiful views out to the Bay of Islands and Pacific Ocean, Waitangi is located in Paihia, the location of the first signing of the treaty between Maori chiefs and the British Crown in 1840.
The club was built on rich free-draining volcanic soil with a variety of contour, with each hole offering a unique challenge. This is a true all-weather, all-seasons course.
Located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, Waipu is a coastal links layout featuring natural, bumpy terrain. It is one of the few courses that offers water views from every hole.
Mangawhai is a superb sand-based links course. The wonderful natural layout has tight fairways that wind through a setting that was made for golf, leading to large undulating greens.
